While Singapore citizenship offers numerous benefits and advantages, it also entails certain obligations. Citizens must adhere to Singapore’s laws and fulfil their civic duties as outlined by the country’s regulations. The obligations are as stated;
No Dual Nationality
The Singapore Government does not allow dual citizenship, so new citizens must renounce their existing citizenship at their respective embassies before completing the formalities to become Singaporean citizens. National Service
Under the Enlistment Act, all male Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) are required to serve in National Service (NS). NS registration is mandatory upon reaching 16 years old, with enlistment typically scheduled at age 18 before university studies begin.
